    • World champion bodyboarder @joana_schenker peacefully interacting with a blue shark. It took her a single freediving session with sharks to understand their true nature and overcome her preconceived fears.
By doing that Joana is now spreading the word about how important sharks are for an healthy and diverse ecosystem. Don't forget to sign and forward the EU shark initiative!

    • Usually freedivers and divers don't fear sharks, swimmers and surfers do. Why is it so?
I think the answer is fairly simple: when you see a shark underwater you quickly understand its true nature and intentions. Also, you can proactively react to its behavior. When you swim, surf or bodyboard you don't have a direct contact with the animal and you undergo the situation. Working with someone like @joana_schenker for getting regular people to overcome their fear of sharks, willing to know more about them and eventually protect them was an evidence because they can relate to her more than if she was an experienced diver. Redefine your perceptions and prejudices....!
Don't forget to sign the EU shark initiative if you haven't yet!

    • After being away from what we name civilisation for a while, this week I'll post about a project we shot this summer in Azores. As many people interested in shark conservation already know, there is a European Union citizen initiative about sharks. In several countries lots of people participated but in some others it seems it never reached mainstream audience. Portugal is one of those. In order to boost it, together with the Portuguese bodyboarding world champion @joana_schenker we decided to do a photoshoot of her first encounters with the iconic blue sharks of the Northern Atlantic. In the next posts I'll write more about the experience but for now you can check her feed where she writes about it and of course sign the EU shark initiative! (link in the bio).

    • Last trip of the sameason to Pricess Alice Bank. Sampling and measuring mobula rays. The offshore bank will far from our eyes until next summer but lots of things will happen for sure on that amazing hotspot until we visit it again.

    • Sunset blue shark session. Autumn is here now, the light is lower, the weather and sea less predictable. Every dive might be the last one with the summer mix of blue warm clear waters...

    • Blue shark at sunset. Large individual, 3m and very thick for a blue, almost looking like a real shark :)
