This morning offshore Faial, Azores, I took two childhood friends who never saw a shark before. I showed them the true nature of these animals. Now they will be shark’s supporters forever and had a glimpse at how fragile they are and the important role they have in the ecosystem! So instead of watching Shark Week which badly impact shark’s perception, go and have fun with them in the ocean!

Une photo d’assez mauvaise qualité prise par 35m de fond lors d’une tentative de marquage d’un requin bouledogue en baie de St Paul. Jusqu’à présent c’est la plus courte distance à laquelle nous avons pu les approcher…mais il manquait 50cm pour le marquer…c’est un mâle de 2m, il était accompagné par une énorme femelle et un autre mâle.

One low quality picture taken at 35m during an attempt to tag a bull shark in St Paul’s bay. So far it’s the closest we’ve been to the sharks….but still 50cm to short to tag it…He was with another huge female and an other male.

Back from a little paradise somewhere in the Eastern Pacific. Amazing Ocean Encounters trip, with Will Winram we took a group of freedivers to meet the great white sharks in the most natural manner.This time we were blessed, probably the best ever interaction between humans and these magnificent creatures. On the last day we had the bottom at 20m and the coastal drop off in sight and spent more than 4 hours freediving with 3 giant sharks sharing the spectacle with some curious sea lions. Freediving at its best.

La nouvelle version du code Vagnon de l’apnée est sortie et disponible.

Revisité par Francine Kreiss et Fred, ce livre a pour but de présenter l’apnée par une série de portraits de recordmen/women, et d’expliquer les bases physiologiques, physiques et techniques de la discipline à travers l’analyse d’une plongée en apnée. Simple et didactique, il permet au débutant de partir sur de bonnes bases et à l’apnéeiste confirmé de réviser ses connaissances. Les auteurs et les éditions Vagnon espèrent attirer nombre de nouveaux pratiquants à cette activité merveilleuse qu’est la plongée en apnée.

Après deux ans et demi de tournage au quatre coins de la Planète et plusieurs mois de post-production, ce qui est à ce jour la plus grosse production mettant en scène l’apnée comme outil d’exploration des fonds sous-marins, sera diffusés sur Arte Allemagne et Arte France, la série au nom de code Ocean Quest, (Danse avec les Poissons en France)sera diffusée toute cette semaine au rythme d’un épisode de 52min au format HDTV en prime time à 19:55 du 17 janvier au 21 janvier.

Release of Ocean Quest HDTV on ARTE (Germany)!

The series will be aired prime time, an episode per day, from the 17th to the 21st of january 2011 on Arte Germany. This is the first release of the HDTV series shot in 3 years all around the world. Featuring Fred and the team exploring, working with scientists and interacting with some of the most mythical creatures of our Oceans, Ocean Quest brings new insights on the underwater world and for one of the first time, displays the true nature of freediving in an hi-quality TV program. This first release is the German language version named Im Reich der Tiefe.

Stay tuned for more diffusion in France, Italy and worldwide during 2011!
